Whitsunday Tours & Experiences
The Whitsunday Islands are 74 continental islands in the Coral Sea off the Queensland coast — a sheltered archipelago within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park where brilliant white silica sand beaches, turquoise water, and the world’s largest coral reef system converge. Whitehaven Beach (7 km of 98% pure silica sand), the swirling tidal patterns of Hill Inlet, and the snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef are the headline attractions, accessed by sailing vessel, high-speed catamaran, motor cruise, ocean raft, scenic flight, or private charter from the mainland base of Airlie Beach. The tours suit all ages and skill levels — from reef snorkelling among the coral formations and marine life to the Hill Inlet Lookout where the panoramic view of the swirling sands and turquoise water is one of the most photographed scenes in Australia. A buffet lunch served on board ensures the day on the water is self-contained, and the high-speed catamaran format maximises the time spent at the reef and on the beach rather than in transit.
Destinations
Whitehaven Beach — Australia’s most beautiful beach. The sand is so pure it does not retain heat. Access by boat, helicopter, or seaplane.
Hill Inlet — the swirling sand-and-water panorama at Whitehaven’s northern end. Best viewed from the lookout at mid-tide.
Great Barrier Reef — outer reef platforms and fringing reef snorkelling within the world’s largest reef system. Turtles, reef sharks, coral gardens, and tropical fish.
Heart Reef — a naturally heart-shaped coral formation visible only from the air. Scenic flights are the only way to see it.
On the Water
Sailing tours — day sails and multi-day cruises (2–3 nights on the boat) through the 74 islands. Island cruises — comfortable motor vessels with sun decks and catering. Adventure tours — ocean rafting, jet skiing, parasailing. Snorkelling tours — guided reef access at the best sites. Private charters — your own boat, your own itinerary.
From the Air
Scenic flights — helicopter, seaplane, and fixed-wing flights over Whitehaven, Hill Inlet, Heart Reef, and the outer reef. Beach landings and pontoon swim stops available.
